Welcome to the Better Planning Coalition's archive and information site

The Better Planning Coalition was formed in 2007 by a number of the UK's main environmental, conservation and civic organisations, who came together out of a deep concern over many of the recommendations of the Barker Review of Land Use Planning.

Making Planning Better sets out the coalition’s vision for why planning matters, what was wrong with Barker and Eddington's planning proposals and what they would have liked to see, and not see, in the Planning White Paper that led to the Planning Act 2008.

The Better Planning Coalition is now dormant, but joint work on planning continues through Wildlife and Countryside Link’s Land Use Planning Working Group.
