Spatial Planning Guidance

As a result of recent Government reforms, with an emerging emphasis on spatial planning, Link believes we have a once-in-a generation opportunity to change fundamentally the way we plan for present needs and for the future.

Fourteen of Link's member organisations have come together to produce this document  - Spatial Planning Guidance - intended to assist local authorities and others implement the changes brought about by the Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004.

This guide is designed to help all those who are now trying to put the new spatial planning approach into practice. It is aimed at officers and elected members in regional assemblies, county, unitary district and borough councils, whether in city, town or country. It is the work of an alliance of the UK’s leading environmental groups, who together bring a wealth of experience of planning in practice, and provides brief summaries of the key issues, challenges and opportunities under various subject headings.
